The owners of this 1930s semi in Beckenham wanted to create a guest suite at the top of the house. Their brief was straightforward: a bright new bedroom and a bathroom that would feel calm and welcoming for visiting family and friends.
To make the new bedroom open and inviting, we installed a full-width set of black-framed windows across the rear wall. These bring in plenty of daylight and give wide views out to the garden. The bathroom was designed with the same focus on light, with both a skylight and a side window. Inside, a walk-in shower, wood-effect vanity and modern fittings gave the en-suite a clean and practical finish.
The clients made bold design choices that gave the space its personality. A deep blue feature wall in the bedroom was paired with burnt orange curtains, while the bathroom was finished in soft mint and grey tones. External rosemary clay tiles tied the new loft into the original house, while Velux anti-heat shutters kept the bedroom cool and private through summer months.
With young children in the home, the build needed to be planned carefully. Most of the heavy work was done from the scaffolding and rooftop before connecting the new loft to the rest of the house. This approach kept noise and disruption down, and clear updates meant the family always knew what stage we were at.
The loft now provides a private guest suite with a light-filled bedroom and stylish bathroom. It feels separate enough to offer visitors their own space, yet still connected to the rest of the house. For the clients, the finished loft has become a place they are proud to share with friends and family, while also adding value to the property.
The clients told us the new loft was exactly what they had hoped for. They valued how straightforward the process felt and how well the final design matched their vision for a calm, welcoming guest space.
