The owners of this 1930s semi in West Wickham wanted a proper master suite. Their vision was clear: a light-filled bedroom looking out onto the garden, a walk-in dressing room and a modern en-suite. They were after a space that felt elegant but practical enough for everyday living.
We designed the loft around light and outlook. Sliding doors now open onto a glass balcony, turning the garden into part of the room. Inside, a walk-in dressing room was built into the eaves with bespoke cabinetry and a long dresser to keep the space organised. The en-suite was kept simple, with clean lines and a comfortable modern finish.
The clients had a keen eye for detail and that shaped the final design. A dark-wood slatted feature wall behind the bed became a focal point, giving the bedroom warmth and depth. Soft neutral tones kept the rest of the room calm, while air conditioning was added for comfort throughout the year. In the dressing room, a pair of Velux windows bring in daylight and make the space bright and inviting.
As the family stayed in the house during the work, we planned the build so that most of the heavy construction happened from the scaffolding and rooftop. We only connected the loft to the house once it was nearly complete. This allowed the family to keep their routine with very little interruption.
The result is a calm, spacious master suite with three distinct areas: a bright bedroom, a generous dressing room and a modern en-suite. It feels personal to the family and has given them a private retreat at the top of their home while also adding lasting value to the property.
The clients told us the loft turned out exactly as they had hoped. It reflects their taste and gives them the extra room they needed. It has quickly become one of their favourite parts of the house.
