In this 1930s terraced home, the clients wanted to turn the loft into a proper master suite. Their goal was simple: a new bedroom, en-suite and dressing room, with as much natural light as possible. They also wanted a design that would feel fresh but not out of step with the rest of the house.
The dormer allowed us to create an open, functional space. A full-width window in the bedroom frames the view of a mature willow tree and fills the room with light. The en-suite was kept simple, with a round backlit mirror and hexagonal floor tiles giving it a clean, contemporary look. A separate dressing area was fitted to keep storage organised, while the new staircase was tied into the home with a striped stair runner.
The clients were closely involved throughout, and their choices gave the loft its character. The royal blue wall in the bathroom, paired with warm neutral tones in the bedroom, makes a striking contrast. A tall black radiator and wall-mounted lights were added for function and style. Beyond the build itself, this project led to a lasting connection — we later worked with the client on a local school initiative, which made the collaboration even more meaningful.
With young children in the house, keeping the work from disturbing family life was a priority. Most of the structural build was carried out externally before connecting the loft back into the home. By the time we needed to work inside, much of the heavy lifting was already complete. Regular updates kept the family reassured and the project running smoothly.
The result is a master suite with three defined areas: a bright bedroom, a fitted dressing room and a bathroom that balances simplicity with bold touches. It has given the family the extra room they needed, while adding long-term value and a part of the house that reflects their style.
The clients told us they were very happy with both the process and the finished result. The new floor is now one of their favourite parts of the house, and the relationship built during the project has continued well beyond completion.
